Why Choose Metropolitan Funeral Service? Five reasons...

We're Independently Owned and Operated

Roughly 12% of America's funeral homes are now corporately owned and operated. Consolidation is particularly intense in urban areas. These corporations frequently own not only the funeral home(s) in a city, but the flower shop that serves the funeral home(s), the casket company, and the urn and vault distributor. Outside of New York, it is not uncommon for the corporation(s) to own the cemeteries and crematories as well.

In funeral service, consolidation rarely benefits the consumer. Sadly, service often takes a backseat to operating statements, budgeting and boardroom politics. Sales and profits become hypercritical to pay high salaries and satisfy the stockholders. This leads to a drop in volume and service charges are increased to compensate for the loss in revenue. The list goes on and on. Don't you and your family deserve more during this time?

At Metropolitan, we believe the extremely sensitive nature of dying, death and the memorialization process deserves the ultimate in personal, compassionate attention. Do you really need four levels of management plus marketing and financial analysts (you'll pay for all of that talent) to arrange and supervise a direct cremation service?

We've Been Serving New Yorker's Since 1935

Metropolitan Funeral Service has been serving the direct cremation, alternative and full funeral service needs of New Yorkers without interruption since 1935. Considering we live in an age where "dot com" businesses are born and die within a span of sixteen months, that's a long time to be in business. We proudly serve all people - regardless of race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or economic status. We're local, neighborhood businessmen who are available 24/7/365 to serve you or answer any questions you may have. For your comfort, convenience or privacy, we'll gladly come to your home, office or hotel to finalize arrangements.

Complete Price Disclosure

You're obviously investigating your direct cremation options -- otherwise, you probably wouldn't be visiting our www.NYCdirectcremation.com web site. Considering we designed our own site and manage it ourselves, we think we've accomplished our goal remarkably well: to completely and fairly explain your options and the service fees associated with serving your direct cremation needs. Our General Price List (required by the Federal Trade Commission, the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs) is available by simply calling or visiting our office. We'll gladly fax or mail you a copy if requested.

Our Low Price

We're often asked how we offer such an affordably-priced direct cremation service. Here's the simple answer: low overhead. We save, you save. Our staff consists of two licensed funeral directors who have collectively served 45,000 families in 25 years. When we're physically out of the office, we're in constant communication with our answering service via cell phone, pager or email. There is no corporate heirarchy or stockholders to appease here. Paperwork is kept to a minimum. Advertising is highly focused. Our business philanthropy is fair but tempered. One fax machine, one photocopier and one computer serve our needs very well.

Our convenient location (critical to just about EVERYTHING in New York) is not a pricey Upper East or West Side address. We display our merchandise (urns, caskets and vaults) in catalogs - not in showrooms that are expensive to stock and maintain. We have one service vehicle, not a fleet of five. Add all of this up and it translates into one thing: tremendous SAVINGS to the consumer.

Always remember the First Law of Consumerism: On like goods and services, ALWAYS pay the most reasonable price.

Discreet, Quiet, Professional, Personal Service

Since we published our web site in October of 2000, we've had over 60,000 visitors to our online home and hundreds of families who didn't know we existed (score one for the Internet) have called us for information or trusted us with their direct cremation needs. Word is obviously getting around. Additionally, we've served many high profile political, legal, literary, film and music personalities during this time.

Why all the positive buzz? Service. Personal service. We're proud of our business, proud of our growing reputation, proud of our web site, and after the cremation authorizations and contract have been signed, we're proud to look you in the eye and say, Thanks for your trust and your business. Sadly, you don't hear the words "Thank You" very much anymore. We say it and we mean it.

Dominic and Michael will do anything to accomodate your special, unique needs. We know someone dear to you has died and we never forget that fact.

Call us today. Our toll free numbers is 1-800-332-1880. We'll help make a difficult time in your life a little bit easier.
